Where can I buy a Type 2 cable in QLD?

NSW β†’ QLD Road Trip 2022–23

Is there anywhere north of Airlie Beach in Queensland where you can buy a type 2 charging cable? Over the counter, not mail order.

    2. Paul Johnston: Thank you. That seems to be single phase 7kW only. I’m thinking I should be looking for one that provides 22kW three phase to get the most out of the occasional 22kW chargers, yes? I have a Tesla Model 3 RWD 2022.

      1. Tesla Tripping Worth getting 22kw for future proofing but Model 3 only has an 11kw onboard charger so that's its max

      2. Tesla Tripping Model 3 has single 11kW onboard inverter so it will only get 11kW rate from 3P32A, 3P20A or 3P16A

    3. Paul Johnston Ah yes, thank you. But this cable seems to be only 7kW, not the 11kW max of the Tesla πŸ€”.

      1. Tesla Tripping Just an option, also note that price ends today. Might be worth another post to see if you can borrow one if you are going up and down the coast. Also may be some on Amazon that you could get delivered to a collection point perhaps?

  2. Contact TOCA. They might have a cable in the area - they're available to borrow free for members.

  4. Been great following your journey, definitely looking forward to my trip up north,

    Q:
Is it worth taking/ buying a type 2 to type 2 lead or did you find it wasn't really necessary?
    Cheers 😊

    1. Kristian Smith I did try, en-route, as this post suggests, but couldn’t find one that was 11kW (or greater) that I could buy over the counter. If I did have one, I could have used it at Mossman Gorge and when waiting for the DC charger at Childers. But, as it turned out, neither would have made a difference to my route or time charging.

      1. Hhmm interesting, cheers for that... Seems more useful to have a 5 pin handy then to get you outa a squeeze πŸ‘

    2. Kristian Smith Here’s us in Childers trying 5pin 32A (7kW), since we didn’t have an 11kW type 2 cable, and the 50kW charger was in use. But, we still would have ended up using the DC charger anyway.

    3. Kristian Smith Here us in Mossman Gorge, unable to use the 7kW type 2 charger without a cable, but we still would have used the 50kW DC fast charger at Port Douglas anyway.
